Classroom FAQ

What is expected of my child in class?

When you come to our classes, all we expect of your children is to be themselves! This will look different for each child; some may sit in your lap and observe, some may wander around the room, some may jump in right away. Your children are never required to sit in the circle or expected to conform to an adult’s idea of participation. As long as the children are safe, they are free to be themselves.

YOU are your child’s most important music teacher right now—so it doesn’t matter if you can’t carry a tune or you have two left feet – your children place no judgement on your perceived musical skill.  Your participation and modeling in class and at home is all your children need to learn to love to make music.  So we invite you to leave your inhibitions behind! Be ready to sing, dance and get silly along with the other families in class as we create the relaxed, playful environment the children need in order to learn best. It’s so easy, You will get out of it as much as you put into it!

We’d like you to think of this class as a ‘music immersion’ class where we only “speak” the language we are learning — music! So we kindly ask that you please wait to socialize or use your cell phone until after class and help us create a music-only environment.

Can we bring Food, Drinks, or Toys to Class?

Please do not bring food into your classroom. We do not know what kinds of allergies might be in our classroom so for everyone’s safety we need to please keep all snacks outside of the classroom area. This is also to respect the spaces we use to keep them as clean as we can. You are free to Nurse or bring a spill proof container of water. Please no toys or stuffed animals in class (exception: ‘lovey’- type objects that are emotionally important to your child). Otherwise, these things will create a distraction in class. Save snacks and toys for after class please.

Do we need any special Attire for class?

Come in clothing that is comfortable to sit on the ground and move around in. Please do NOT wear outdoor shoes into any of our studio spaces. There are boot room facilities near the doors to leave your outdoor shoes. We need to keep our floors as clean as possible for our little music makers that are still crawling.

You may bring slippers or socks or even indoor shoes for you or your little ones, as well as a nice cozy blanket for our babies who aren’t yet crawling to lay on.

Are Guests Welcome in Class?

Grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends are ALWAYS welcome! No need to ask permission, our classroom’s aim is to be an extension of your living room so invite anyone to class that you would invite to your home.

HOWEVER if your guest is bringing a little one, that will factor into the “kid count” so please let us know ahead of time. If you bring additional children more than 2 times in a semester there will be a drop in fee of $10 per child.

What do I do if my child is sick?

We can agree that in a room full of children and potentially expecting mother’s we need to keep in mind the best interest of the health of everyone. So when examining that runny nose let’s remember to be cautious to not spread our germs! Please speak to me about scheduling a make up class if you need to miss because of sickness.

What happens if school is cancelled due to weather?

If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, music class will be cancelled too. When classes are canceled, we will post the announcement on our Facebook page, the home page of our website, and we will also send an email to the address we have on file for you.

If the weather is bad but class is not cancelled, please use your own judgement when deciding whether to attend class. We can always make accommodations for you to make up a missed class and want everyone to feel safe.
